Sports betting
Totals (over/under)
A bet on whether the combined score of both teams lands above or below a line set by the book or market.
A total of 47.5 in an NFL game pays Over if the teams combine for 48 or more. Totals move on pace, weather, injuries to key offensive players and public money, which tends to favor overs.
On a prediction market a total appears as "Over 47.5" Yes/No, priced in cents. The price is the implied probability of the over; one minus it is the under.
Totals and spreads are correlated with the moneyline but priced separately, which creates occasional inconsistencies worth noticing.
