Juice
Another word for vig: the commission a sportsbook builds into its odds.
"Paying the juice" means accepting -110 odds on an even proposition. Reduced-juice books offer -105, which halves the margin and is the single biggest edge a recreational bettor can buy.
Prediction markets charge fees instead of juice; Kalshi's fee formula scales with price and peaks at 50 cents, while Polymarket US charges a taker fee on sports contracts. Comparing total cost requires converting both into a percentage of stake.
Over a season the difference between -110 and -105 is the difference between a losing and a break-even bettor at a 52 percent hit rate.
