Editorial standards & methodology
These are the rules we hold our own work to. They exist so a reader can judge how much to trust a page — and so we can be held to account when we fall short.
Sourcing
Factual claims about the law are backed by primary sources wherever possible: court orders, filed complaints, and official statements from state regulators or the CFTC. When we rely on reporting rather than a primary document, we name the outlet and link it. Every legality page ends with a Sources list. We do not launder rumor into fact; if something is contested or unresolved, we say so plainly.
Analysis, not advice
BetG8 does not give betting tips or personalized financial or legal advice. We explain how markets are priced and what the law currently says; decisions are the reader's. Where a question is genuinely legal (for example, "can I use this platform in my state?") we describe the state of play and point to primary sources, but we are not your lawyer.
Update cadence
Our prediction-market legality pages track live litigation, so they carry a visible "Updated" date and are revised as orders, deadlines and appeals land. When a ruling changes a state's status, we update the relevant state page and the national tracker rather than leaving a stale claim in place. Evergreen explainers and tools are reviewed periodically for accuracy.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and — for anything material — note the correction and its date on the page. To report an error, email editorial@betg8.com with the URL and the specific claim. We'd rather be corrected than be wrong.
The math in our tools
Our calculators use standard, transparent formulas: implied probability as 1 ÷ decimal odds, vig as the sum of two-way implied probabilities over 100%, and parlay prices as the product of each leg's decimal odds. The house-edge figures we quote assume standard -110 legs and are stated as such, so you can reproduce them. If you find a discrepancy, tell us.
