One week to the MLB deadline: the futures board is already trading the trades
The 2026 MLB trade deadline lands next Monday, August 3 at 6 p.m. ET — and the World Series futures board has spent July doing what it always does in deadline season: pricing the trades before they happen. The moves already on the board are bigger than most deadline deals will justify, which is exactly why the next week matters.
The numbers
| Team | Then | Now | The story |
|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles Dodgers | — | +200 | Clear favourite, roughly a third of the probability mass |
| Milwaukee Brewers | +2500 (late May) | +1000 | 62-37, second-best record in baseball — third choice |
| Atlanta Braves | +900 (mid-June) | +1100 | 57-41 but drifting — the board wants a deadline answer |
| Philadelphia Phillies | +2000 | +1300 | 55-45 and shortening |
| Boston Red Sox | +10000 (July 6) | ~+2500 | 100/1 to 25/1 in three weeks on a heater |
Prices per BetMGM as reported by RG.org's weekly futures tracker and Yahoo Sports, July 26, 2026; deadline date per NBC and MLB.com. Implied: +200 = 33.3%, +1000 = 9.1%, +2500 = 3.8%, with operator margin included.
What to watch through August 3
The Red Sox curve is the retail tell. A 100/1 team shortening to 25/1 in three weeks is partly form, partly flow — hot teams attract futures money the way star names do, and books shade accordingly. Whether Boston buys at the deadline tells us whether the front office believes the price.
Atlanta's drift is a message to its own front office. A 57-41 team getting longer — +900 to +1100 — while worse records shorten is the market pricing roster doubt, not results. Deadline inactivity would confirm the drift; a rotation add reverses it in an afternoon.
The two-market check applies here too. Kalshi and Polymarket both carry World Series markets, fresh off a record July. Deadline week is precisely when order books tend to beat the books on speed — exchanges reprice on the tweet; sportsbooks pull the market and repost. If a gap opens on deadline day, that is the England-gap method in a baseball uniform.
